Job Description
The Interior Design Faculty member is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in interior design, guiding students through their academic and professional development, and contributing to the department’s academic and creative activities. This role involves curriculum development, student advising, research, and participation in departmental and institutional service.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching:
Develop and deliver course content in interior design, including lectures, studio work, and practical workshops.
Create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters creativity and critical thinking.
Assess and evaluate students’ progress through assignments, projects, exams, and critiques.
Curriculum Development:
Design and update course syllabi to reflect current trends and technologies in interior design.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance the interior design curriculum.
Integrate industry standards and practices into the curriculum to prepare students for professional success.
Student Advising and Mentorship:
Advise students on academic and career goals, providing guidance and support throughout their educational journey.
Mentor students on portfolio development, internships, and career opportunities.
Support students’ participation in design competitions, exhibitions, and industry events.
Research and Professional Development:
Engage in scholarly research, creative projects, or professional practice related to interior design.
Publish research findings, exhibit creative work, or present at conferences and workshops.
Stay current with developments in the field through continuous professional development and industry engagement.
Departmental and Institutional Service:
Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and initiatives.
Contribute to the accreditation process and other quality assurance activities.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to support the department’s goals and objectives.
Community and Industry Engagement:
Establish and maintain relationships with industry professionals, organizations, and alumni.
Facilitate guest lectures, industry partnerships, and experiential learning opportunities.
Promote the interior design program through outreach and community involvement
A Master’s or Doctorate degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
Experience: Significant professional experience in interior design, with a strong portfolio of work.
Previous teaching experience is highly desirable.
